Whatcha think? Lil’ buck hickory or herring? Spi Whatcha think? Lil’ buck hickory or herring? Spilt milt on hand in pic 2. I’m thinking small hickory. Plus, the perch are plentiful now. And carp are showing themselves prespawn (active feeding). Way upper Pax.

Fishing Big Hunting Creek in Thurmont was a neat e Fishing Big Hunting Creek in Thurmont was a neat experience. It’s storied water but easily accessible. I took a 5w and various flies for a dry-dropper setup: mostly emergers, Adams, and bead-head nymphs. Simple, simple stuff. In fact, it’s all I fished. In three hrs of total angling time this week (not much, I know, but big thx to my fam for indulging me), I enjoyed a half-dozen active rises on the dry Adams, two takes/hookups, and one fun energetic air-born tango, which shook off (I believe a small brown). As @patuxentsignatureflies said in a previous post, the water is technical and, b/c of its accessibility, very pressured. I found the casting pleasant and roomy enough to really manipulate my casts into the tricky spots and easier, obvious ones. It’s been said the fish are as wise as the presidents that have fished for them. As such, difficult to trick. But it sure was fun trying!

Oh, and it’s pretty.
