Friends of Fletcher’s Cove’s annual “Shad Night 2025” will be held February 20th beginning at 7 p.m.

Winter has been harsh this year but it’s almost over. Shad will begin arriving soon at Fletcher’s Cove and it’s time to get ready! Shad Night, DC’s annual get-together for shad fishing enthusiasts, will return online next week for another fun and informative evening.

We are rounding up the usual suspects to offer insight into the great Potomac shad fishing near Fletcher’s Cove. John Kuriawa, Alex Binsted, Dan Neuland and Mike Tsukamoto, among others, will reflect on last year’s run and offer tips for upping your game. I will present the “Missing Shad Report” from last June featuring some surprising late-season American shad fishing—don’t miss it!

Also, we are delighted that two fisheries biologists from Maryland DNR will participate this year. Matt Jargowsky will return to review American shad abundance data from last year’s run, while Ashlee Horne will provide an overview of DNR programs for both hickory and American shad, including her present effort to restore American shad in the Choptank and Patapsco Rivers.

Silent Auction fans will be happy to know that our online bidding frenzy will return again this year during Shad Night week. The auction is now open for viewing and will run from February 16-23. As always, there will be a great selection of local fishing trips up for grabs, and all proceeds benefit the FFC mission—Save the Cove!
