The Sultana Education Foundation’s annual Downrigging Weekend Festival will return to the historic port of Chestertown, Maryland the weekend of November 1-3, 2024.  Presented in partnership with Mastercard, the festival will feature one of the largest annual gatherings of wooden ships in North America, a full-throated Bluegrass festival, lectures, fireworks, exhibits, and more.  This unique combination has earned Downrigging the reputation as one of the most distinctive waterfront festivals in America, attracting more than 10,000 visitors annually.  Proceeds from the festival support Sultana’s environmental literacy programs as well as educational programs operated by the nonprofit ships participating in the festival. Fall Fest at the Preserve

Join Sultana Education Foundation for an old-fashioned harvest fest at Sultana’s new Lawrence Wetlands Preserve in Chestertown.  Bring a blanket, bring the family, and spend a few hours surrounded by nature as you enjoy great music, food, friends, and drink.  Did we mention there will be plenty to do for the kids? State of the Rivers: Chester

ShoreRivers is pleased to announce the return of our highly anticipated State of the Rivers events—a series of free presentations held each spring to inform public about the current state of our Eastern Shore waterways. Each year, between April—October, ShoreRivers’ professional Riverkeepers conduct weekly tidal sampling of more than 60 sites from Cecilton to Cambridge, then test for multiple scientific water quality parameters including dissolved oxygen, nutrient pollution, algae, and clarity. These indicators reveal the overall health of our waterways and our progress toward protecting and restoring our local rivers. The public is invited to learn more about the results of this testing, with a focus on the Chester River at this State of the Rivers presentation, hosted by Chester Riverkeeper Annie Richards.
