Sponsored by Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and the Chesapeake Oyster Alliance, this year's Rod & Reef Slam is instead offering a Youth Fishing Derby for our youngest of anglers. The Derby is presented as part of this year's Chesapeake Fishing Open. Experience the magic of marine restoration and get ready for an action-packed day filled with exciting fishing adventures, oyster restoration, and boundless fun suitable for all ages! CBF will furnish all young enthusiasts with necessary fishing and safety equipment and a free chartered boat will accompany our budding anglers and their grownups to the flourishing oyster reef at Fort Carroll. Once back on shore, young participants are invited to visit our booth, claim their prizes, and explore more about the fascinating fish they've caught! Pasadena Sportfishing’s Kid’s Derby

Kid’s Derby – September 16, 2023 @ Ft. Smallwood Park Casting range – hit the fish eye all kids win a prize. Open classes on safety, rigging, baiting hooks, and tying knots. Free bait and P.S.G. Volunteers will assist you with your fishing and measure your “catch”. TWO AGE GROUPS: (4 – 8) (9 – 15) – Door Prizes – Prizes in each age group for the 3 largest fish caught and most fish caught. CONTEST RULES All contestants must bring their fishing rod & reel. All contestants must check in at the registration table. (Registration time 7:30 am – 8:30 am) No registrations are accepted after 8:30 am. Blackwater NWR Youth Fishing Fun Day

In partnership with the Friends of Blackwater and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will hold their annual Youth Fishing Fun Day on Saturday, June 3rd, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This family-friendly event will be held at “Hog Range” Pond behind the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center, located off Route 335. Young people, 15 years old and under, can pre-register for the event by calling 410-228-2677 or register at the event on June 3rd. The first 100 registered youth to check in at the event will receive a t-shirt and special gift. Each registered youth will also receive a free lunch ticket for a hot dog, drink, and chips. Bait (nightcrawlers) will be provided for anglers, or they may bring their own bait or lures.
