Autumn mornings, riding the river, playing with fish. Thankful for these resources. Some small stripers fly caught. Definitely a challenge finding willing fish to chew by fly casting. It’s a different ballgame for sure. Takes concentration, patience, and stamina. Water temp at 68F today. Fall patterns almost consistent. Good clean fun #stripedbass #flyfishing #stripersonthefly #rockfish #marylandfishing
If you're interested in the Atlantic Menhaden issues concerning biomass, commercial catch rates, fishery reductions, mortality rates, and how they all tie together---PLUS the bigger issue on the ASMFC plate right now that not enough folks are talking about---then give Charles Witek's site and this blog post a read --> https://oneanglersvoyage.blogspot.com/2026/10/the-other-menhaden-issue.html?m=1
Reminder: ASMFC General Public Virtual Hearing Tonight (10/1) at 6 p.m. for Menhaden Draft Addendum II to Amendment 3. This could reduce Ches Bay commercial fishery quota by 50%....and help "save the menhaden" (my words, not theirs). Meeting info/link --> https://asmfc.org/events/general-public-hearing-on-atlantic-menhaden-draft-addendum-ii/
This is a fun read about dolphins in the Chesapeake Bay and the citizen science program helping us understand them... https://www.umces.edu/news/leaping-forward-with-dolphinwatch/
Always a hoot to check in with the IGFA's newly approved world record catches (one of which is a striper from Mass.) https://igfa.org/2026/09/24/world-records-for-september-2026/
