3rd Annual Nanticoke River Invasive Fishing Derby

Presented by Salisbury University.
Dr. Noah Bressman’s lab at Salisbury University is hosting the third annual fishing tournament on the Nanticoke River (including tributaries like Marshyhope Creek and Barren Creek) targeting Blue Catfish and Northern Snakeheads. These are both invasive species that the Bressman lab is researching to learn more about their effects (or potential effects) on the local ecosystem.
There is no entry fee, but we will have many prizes to give out!(details to come soon as the final funding is determined, but if last year was any indication, we had over $2000 in prizes!). Some prizes will be for a variety of categories including biggest, most by number, and most by weight for blue catfish and snakeheads, as well as prizes for just showing up and participating!
There will be prizes for shore-based anglers, kayakers, and boaters. If you do not have any fishing gear but are interested in participating/learning how to fish, we will have some gear for shore-based anglers that you can borrow for free at the event. We also have some sponsors that will also be giving away prizes, including the Maryland Coastal Conservation Association (MD CCA) and Old Skool Tackle!
If you are competing in the shore-based division, you must fish at Cherry Beach Park. If you are fishing from kayak or boat, you may use any boat launch along the Nanticoke and tributaries, but must bring the fish to the weigh-in at Cherry Beach by the deadline (1:30 pm). In any division, if you run out of cooler space or feel like dropping fish off early, you may do so at any time before 1:30 pm and we will weigh and process those fish, which will still count to your total.
Rain date: 7/27
