DESCRIPTION:The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser for the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay where staff selects 10-15 short films for our audiences to enjoy. Films highlight topics related to nature\, community activism\, adventure\, conservation\, water\, energy and climate change\, wildlife\, environmental justice\, agriculture\, Native American\, and indigenous culture. SUMMARY:Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge's Eagle Festival
DESCRIPTION:Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its annual Eagle Festival on Saturday\, March 16\, 2024\, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.   Join us for this free\, family-friendly event focused on birds of prey\, with educational programs and exhibits featuring live birds and reptiles\, hands-on activities\, and refuge tours. \nPrograms in the big tent will kick off at 10:00 am with naturalist Liz Smith as she shares the special hunting adaptations of several native species of birds of prey.  At 11:00 am\, and again at 3:00 pm\, naturalist Mike Callahan will present an interactive program focusing on bald eagles\, owls\, and other native raptors of Maryland.  At 12:00 pm\, and again at 2:30 pm\, Maryland DNR ‘Scales and Tales’ naturalists will present an egg crushing demonstration\, and at 1:00 pm\, Animal Behavior and Conservation Connections presents a mixed-species free-flight program featuring species from around the world!  \nGuided tours will be available throughout the day\, including eagle prowls and tours of Wildlife Drive.  Registration for tours will begin at 9:30 am the day of the festival (no pre-registration).  “Early birds” to the Eagle Festival can meet at the refuge’s Environmental Education Building on Wildlife Drive at 8:00 am for a guided birding tour with Terry Allen. \nClick here for full details and the day’s schedule.
